A Journey Through Diversity, Passion, Collaboration and Strength
Stepping into the FIA Conference Hall was like entering a safe space where diversity, passion, and collaboration intersected in the most delightful manner. It was an experience that left an indelible mark on my professional and personal journey.
The diversity of age, gender, sexual orientation, faith and backgrounds shaped in a rich mosaic of perspectives and causes. But what truly stood out was the unifying force of passion. Every individual, regardless of the cause they were championing, radiated an unparalleled commitment to their mission.
As someone who has always strived to bring concepts like company strategy and vision out of the Board room to life, I couldn't help but be inspired by the innate passion that permeated every aspect of the For Purpose space. It was as if each person carried their organisational mission within them, as a flame that fuelled their dedication and drive.
The vibrancy of the room was palpable, filled with hugs, big laughs and the hum of shared experiences and the exchange of ideas. Unlike the competitive atmosphere often found in the Private Sector, there, every cause was valued, and everyone was dedicated to collective growth and impact.
Yet, one encounter stood out above the rest. Meeting Svitlana Pugach and Olha Poliakh from Tabletochki, a Ukrainian non-profit organization supporting children with cancer, was a profound experience. Their 3-day journey from Kyiv to Australia, fraught with challenges and adversity, served as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
Two years ago, their goal was to build an oncological paediatric hospital. However, the unexpected happened. Nobody was anticipating the Russian invasion. There was no risk assessment or planning for the unimaginable. When everything around them started to fall apart, they did not have time for doubt. They knew it was imperative to act fast and continue supporting the 7,500 children with cancer and their families. Despite the chaos of war tearing through their homeland, they clung to their mission.
Their story, shared on the Leadership Track during the Leading through Fire session, encapsulated the importance of a strong organisational culture and the essence of true leadership, resilience, dedication and strength.
Their presentation moved the audience to tears, but also ignited a fire within us all - a reminder that in the face of adversity, our passion can be a powerful force for change.
As I reflect on my first FIA Conference experience, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose. I can say I have found my superheroes - individuals whose dedication and passion inspire me to strive for greater impact. The FIA Conference isn't just a forum for collaboration; it's a celebration of the boundless potential that lies within each of us to make a difference in the world.
