POLL... How do you measure career success?

Recently we saw a powerful image about measuring success. It got us thinking about how we measure success ourselves and also how our candidates and clients measure their career success.

The answer will be different for every person and when it comes to measuring career success, there are many more factors than money and position title. There is a lot of complexity around what motivates us, how we define success, how we make decisions and what keeps us engaged.

Gembridge manages recruitment in the 'for purpose' space, and the motivation we hear from candidates fits nicely into this pie chart, particularly in the "liking what you do" triangle. We put it to a LinkedIn poll, asking ‘Apart from job title and salary, what is most important for you?’ which confirmed that for many people in our network, liking what you do and mental health are important factors when measuring career success.

If you haven’t done this already, it could be worth taking the time to reflect, explore and put some thought into this….

  • How do I define success? What does it look like for me?

  • How do I measure career success?

  • What is most important to me?

  • What are my career goals?

  • What steps do I need to take to move closer to achieving my goals / being successful (as defined by YOU)?
