Gem Spotlight - javi medel at gembridge

Javi joined Team Gembridge, starting as a Senior Recruitment Consultant in August. Here she shares some of herself - coming from Chile to Australia, a love of movies and books and a deep passion for connecting great people with great opportunities.

Welcome to Gembridge, Javi!

Tell us a little bit more about yourself

My name is Javi, and I am originally from Viña del Mar, Chile, South America. I have dedicated the majority of my career to recruitment across different locations worldwide. In 2017, while living in Chile, I met my husband, who was volunteering to teach English for an NGO. A couple of years later, my company transferred me to Australia, as this is my husband's home country.

Where is your favourite or dream holiday destination?

My favorite place, without a doubt, is Skopelos in Greece. It is the island where the movie Mamma Mia was filmed.

What is your favourite movie, TV show or book?

Favourite books:

  • Isabel Allende - Portrait in Sepia, My Invented Country

  • Maria Duenas – The Time in Between

  • Charlotte Bronte – Jane Eyre

  • D.H Lawrence - Lady Chatterley’s Lover

If you could invite 3 guests to dinner, who would they be?

Dead or alive? I would invite my mom who passed when I was 21 years old, Helen Clark former NZ president and Kofi Annan.

What’s the best thing about your current role?

I am dedicated to connecting exceptional individuals with the ideal opportunities that will propel their careers forward. It's not just a job; it's an art form that allows me to positively impact lives. There's no greater reward than hearing my candidates say, "Thank you for changing my life for good." Additionally, guiding clients and candidates is a responsibility that I wholeheartedly enjoy.

Recruitment can be hard. How do you stay focused, motivated, and driven?

Two valuable pieces of advice I received while working in recruitment: it's okay to make mistakes because you'll learn and grow through them, and the importance of work-life balance, especially during peak recruitment seasons.

What motivated you to move into or start in the “for purpose” sector?

I have been involved with several NGOs over the years in different roles. When I first started working in recruitment, I knew that eventually I would work in recruitment for the not-for-profit sector. A few years later, that vision has become a reality.

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

The best career advice I've received is to be mindful of what brings you joy. It's easy to get wrapped up in your career and lose sight of what brings you joy. Taking a step back and remembering what you're passionate about can help re-energize you and reignite your love for what you do.

Thank you for sharing with us, Javi. Welcome to Team Gembridge!
